The general signs of drug use
among teens include:
1) Changes in friends; hanging out with a new, unknown crowd
2) Changes in sleeping and eating patterns
3) Declining grades
4) Loss of interest in hobbies or favorite activities
5) Lack of motivation
6) Hostile, uncooperative attitude
7) Unexplained disappearance of household money
Remember, these are general signs
of drug use. Differences between drugs will trigger some specific signs
for specific use. For substance-specific information, check out PVPS
Drug Basics, Inhalants
and Ecstasy.
And keep in mind that not every person who demonstrates a few of these symptoms
is using drugs. There may be medical or emotional reasons for changes in
behavior and attitudes. If you have suspicions without specific proof of
drug use, you may want to take your teen to a doctor for a thorough exam.
