What does the phrase "underage drinking," mean in
South Dakota?
*40% of high school students have had one or more drinks of alcohol in
the past 30 days.
*26% have had 5 or more drinks of alcohol in a row on one or more days
during the past 30 days.

These numbers make it more important than ever to begin teaching youth at an early age about the dangers of alcohol.
The Town Hall Meeting aims to increase community awareness on the issue of underage drinking, identify how underage drinking affects the entire community, and brainstorm possible solutions. The meeting will provide an opportunity for parents, teachers, officials, youth, and other community members to voice their concerns and suggest ideas for preventing young people from using alcohol.

Sgt. Jerry Winter, Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department and
Shilpa Chandran, Mayor’s Youth
