Sioux Falls School District Drug Abuse Prevention Program These guidelines are written to help the structure and rules of the Sioux Falls School District's response to alcohol and other drugs. ●Any infraction of the District's policy of zero tolerance of alcohol and other drug use will result in out-of-school suspension. ●The duration of the student's out-of-school suspension will be determined by the Sioux Falls School District. ●Students may choose to reduce the length of their out-of-school suspension by remaining abstinent from alcohol or other drugs and participating in the District's Drug Abuse Prevention Program at the school or at Prairie View Prevention Services. ●Parents and students voluntarily choose to participate in the District's Drug Prevention Program and remain involved on a voluntary basis. ●This program is part of the District's comprehensive prevention plan. The program helps the student understand and change the behavior that resulted in the infraction. ●By participating in the Drub Abuse Prevention Program, students will be able to reduce the number of days they are assigned out-of-school suspension. ●Choosing this alternative indicates that the student and the student's parents agree to work to identify whatever issues led to the violation of school policies and to work on resolving those issues. ●If you choose to participate in the Drug Abuse Prevention Program, it is important to contact Prairie View Prevention Services at 331-5724 to schedule an appointment. ●A student or family may wish to participate in family sessions instead of the Drug Abuse Prevention Program. If this is your preference, it must be approved by Dr. Bill Smith, Director of Instructional Support Services at 367-7027. ●There will be no charge for any of the services associated with this program. If you incur court related fines or expenses, they are entirely your responsibility. ●Addressing the issues that resulted in your behavior is hard work, but the Sioux Falls School District is convinced that your success in the Drug Abuse Prevention Program will benefit you greatly. Your success will give the school confidence that you will not likely violate the policy again. |
